With warmer weather finally working its way into the area the UCHS boys and girls track teams are finally beginning to hit their respective strides (pun intended). In meets at Western Carolina University on April 5 and Bunker Hill High School on April 10 the Barracuda tracksters set marks that place them among both the conference and state leaders as the season moves into the final month.
Amanda Perry (30′ 3″) and Avery Guyer (76’0″) are ranked 3rd and 4th in the shot put and discus throw respectively and both lead the SPAA Conference in those events. Sarah Roseman and Caroline Walker are both among NCISAA leaders in the 3200 meter run (2 miles) and are ranked #1 and # 2 in the SPAA standings in both the 3200, 1600 and 800 meter runs. Anna McNeely (27’2″) and Anna Catherine Pritchard (27’0″) lead the SPAA Conference in the triple jump and are ranked #6 and #7 in the state rankings. Gracie Myers has qualified for the state meet in the long jump with a personal best of 13’21/2″. The 3200 meter relay team of Sarah Roseman, Sally Roseman, Carloine Walker and Ellie Chiles is currently 3rd ranked in the NCISAA 1A/2A standings.
Best of luck to these ladies as they seek to defend their SPAA championship from last season.
