Adele Huffman is a senior and three year member of the Lady Barracudas track and field team. Adele is the daughter of Amanda Pierce and Alan Huffman. In addition to competing in track and field Adele has also been a member of the UCHS girls swim teams that have won three consecutive conference titles and the NCISAA Division III State Championship this past season. Adele has been most decorated as a member of the Lady Barracuda tennis team which has won conference titles for the past four years and has advanced to at least the NCISAA 2A final four every season she was a member, including a state runner-up finish in 2017. This past fall Adele was named the inaugural Foothills Athletic Conference Player of the Year in tennis and was voted all-state as well.
In track and field she competed in every open running event from 100 meters to 800 meters and in the shot put and discus throws. She closes her career as the #5 ranked thrower of both shot and discus in school history.
In addition to her athletic exploits Adele has been active in Model United Nations, Foreign Language Club, Yearbook Club, UCHS Ambassadors and she was instrumental in founding the School Spirit Club. Adele also serves on the Hickory Youth Council.
Adele will enroll at Randolph Macon College in the fall where she has already signed a National Letter of Intent to play tennis. Her plans are to study ethics and communications along with film studies and screenwriting.
Her favorite memories from track and field have been the bus rides to and from meets and the stops at Chic-Fil-A with coach Taylor and all the team members.
Her message to her teammates is as follows. “Don’t take high school for granted. These have been the best years of my life so far and that’s because of the memories and relationships with others I have built. And, buy a bucket hat; they are totally worth it!”
UCHS thanks Adele for all her efforts at enriching the lives of those around her and we pray God’s blessing upon her as she pursues the path upon which He leads her.
