Sarah Kelty is a senior member of the UCHS girls tack and field team. Sarah is the daughter of Dr. Patrick Kelty and Jessica Kelty. Along with track Sarah was also the lone senior and mainstay leader of the Lady Barracudas swim team which won three consecutive conference titles and the 2020 NCISAA Division III State Championship. Sarah was a multiple medal winner in both individual and relay events at this year’s state swim meet.
2020 was Sarah’s first year competing in track and field and she competed in one meet in both 200 and 400 meter runs. Her 400 time, in only her first meet, was good enough to earn her the #10 spot in UCHS history in that event. Sarah brought an intense work ethic and exemplary attitude to track in the short time she was there.
In addition to her athletic accomplishments Sarah is an outstanding scholar and leader at UCHS. Her activities include Secretary for the Student Council, National Honor Society, Music Club and Student Intern for Mrs. Link.
Sarah will continue her education at Franciscan University of Steubenville and plans to major in English and/or writing and philosophy with the goal of becoming a secondary English teacher.
Her favorite memory from track and field is as follows. “At the Bunker Hill meet, (the first meet of the season) everyone was a little unprepared. Most of us forgot or didn’t think to bring food and we all were starving. After I ate all the snacks that I had leftover in my bag from the swim season, I went out to my car to see if I had anything. I was surprised to discover I had a full pan of cornbread…the team devoured it!”
Sarah’s message to her teammates reflects her wonderful spirit and positive attitude.
“Thank you all for making my short-lived running experience one to remember. Without you,
there’s no way I would’ve made it around the track. You all, quite literally, motivated me to
try when all I wanted to do, or thought I could do, was walk, throw up, or quit. Remember that you’re only as good as the kid next to you. No matter what your rank is, or your race, try
to make them a better athlete and a happier person. Smile! I’ll miss you guys!”
We thank Sarah for all her contributions to UCHS, including track and field. Sarah makes any group of which she is a part better by her presence. Best of luck and God’s blessings to Sarah as she moves on in the next step of life’s journey.
