The UCHS girls took the #2 and #3 doubles matches and then closed out visiting Caldwell Academy 5-2 by taking the #2, #4 and #5 singles matches in the NCISAA 2A quarterfinal round at Catawba Country Club on October 23. Doubles wins by Lydia Gerrard/Ainsley Richardson and Lizzie Sain/ Frannie Zagaroli staked UCHS to a 2-1 lead moving to singles competition. Wins by Lydia Gerrard at #2, Ainsley Richardson at #4 and Lizzie Sain at #5 gave University Christian the requisite 5 points to secure the victory and move on to the final four of NCISAA competition for the fifth consecutive year.
The win sets up a rematch of last year’s semifinal match between University Christian and Trinity Academy of Raleigh, a match won by Trinity as the won the final singles match in a tiebreaker. The Lady Lionbs went on to capture the 2019 NCISAA 2A championship. The semifinal match will be held on Tuesday, October 27 at Catawba Country Club at 3pm.
